Privacy
DeadlyDog Productions is one person. This is everything the website and the games keep about you, and why. No ads, no cookies, no tracking companies, and nothing is ever sold or shared for marketing.
The website
- Visits are counted, anonymously. When a page opens, your browser sends our game server which page it was, which website sent you there (just its name, like google.com), and a random number your browser made up the first time and keeps in its own storage, so that coming back on the same day counts you once. Clicks on Buy, the free demos and Play are counted the same way: only which of those it was.
- The server keeps only a scrambled version of that number, and tallies by day, for 90 days. Your internet address is used for a moment to stop floods of requests, and is never written down.
- No cookies. To stop being counted, clear this site's data in your browser, or block
45-76-245-44.sslip.io. - The pages are hosted by GitHub Pages. Like any web host, it sees your internet address when your browser asks it for a file. The fonts are kept on the site itself, so your browser doesn’t ask Google for them.
- The contact form opens your own email app with the message filled in. Nothing is sent until you send it, and we get only what is in the email.
Reviews
- To write a review, you make an account: a username and a password. The password is kept only as a salted hash, so it can't be read back, not even by us.
- Your username and your reviews are public. You can change or delete your own reviews at any time.
The mailing list
- If you sign up for news, we keep your email address, which game's page you signed up from, and the date. Nothing else.
- You're only on the list once you click the link in the letter we send to confirm it. An address that is never confirmed is deleted after a week.
- We write only when there is real news: a big update, a new game, a sale. Every letter has a link that takes you off at once, and leaving deletes your address. The letters are sent through our email account; the list is never shared or sold.
Buying Forester: Reckoning
- Payments go through Stripe, on Stripe's own payment page. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach us. Stripe's own privacy policy covers what they keep.
- From Stripe we keep what it tells us about the sale: your email address (to send your licence key, and to help if you lose it), the country, region and city from your billing details, the amount, and the date.
- For your licence key we keep the computers it unlocked (up to three): a random number for each, the kind of computer (Mac or Windows), and your online player name, if you have one.
The games
- Forester: Reckoning counts how many people play. When the desktop game starts, it sends our server a random number it made for itself the first time it ran, its version, Mac or Windows, and whether it's the demo or the full game. Nothing about you or your computer. The server keeps that number only scrambled.
- How long the games are played. While a game is actually being played (a game open and its window in front, not the menu, a pause or a hidden tab), it tells our server once a minute that it is still being played, with the same random number described above: the desktop game's own, or the one the website keeps in your browser for counting visits. The server keeps only that number scrambled and a count of minutes for each game, by day for 90 days and as one running total. Nothing about you or about your game.
- Online play uses the player name you choose, your look, your ratings, and what you build in the shared worlds. Chat goes to the other players, and a world keeps its latest few dozen messages.
- Your saves stay on your own computer. Forester and Standards In Smoke, the browser games, keep their saves in your browser.
Asking about your data
Write to deadlydogdev@gmail.com to ask what we have about you, or to have it deleted. A purchase's own record stays with Stripe, as the law on sales requires.
